6-Minute Walking Test
Developed by the American Thoracic Society, the 6-minute walk test is a useful way to evaluate a patient’s endurance and aerobic capacity and the performance of physical systems such as the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems. Appropriate for use with patients of all ages, this test is often used in combination with other tools to evaluate patient progress and provide a diagnosis for pulmonary and other disorders.
The test involves having the patient walk back and forth between two fixed points for six minutes. Vitals, such as your blood pressure and oxygen saturation, will be measured. The results will be used as part of diagnosing a disorder or evaluating the treatment progress.
