In 2006, our Weslaco site became the first sleep disorders center south of San Antonio to gain accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the United States’ pre-eminent accrediting body for sleep disorders centers. In 2010, a second site in Edinburg became fully accredited, subsequently moving its operation a few blocks south in 2014 to a site in north McAllen, which in turn gained accreditation from the AASM in 2015.
The Pulmonary and Sleep Center of the Valley thus currently maintains two fully-accredited sleep disorder center sites in the Rio Grande Valley, one in the mid-Valley (Weslaco) and a site in the upper Valley (McAllen). Each of our locations is no more than a 30 minute drive from any part of the Valley.
Three of our Pulmonologist-Sleep Specialists are dual Board Certified in Pulmonary and Sleep medicine. All five of our pulmonologist-sleep specialists are additionally Board-Certified in Critical Care Medicine, each holding appointments in the Critical Care Units of the nearby Renaissance Medical Center in North McAllen. Our Psychologist-Sleep Specialist gained Certification from the American Board of Sleep Medicine as a PhD Sleep Specialist in 1989. Our Center-affiliated Dental Sleep Medicine Specialist gained Certification from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine in 2014 and remains the Valley’s only such credentialed Dental Sleep Medicine specialist.
